Granules

Granules are small mineral particles embedded in asphalt shingles that provide UV protection and weather resistance. They help shield the underlying asphalt layer from sun exposure and physical wear. Loss of granules is a common sign of roof aging and deterioration, often visible in gutters or downspouts. In Vancouver’s wet climate, granule loss can accelerate roof aging and reduce waterproofing effectiveness. Monitoring granule condition is important for assessing roof health and planning maintenance or replacement.
