Algae Stains

Algae stains are dark streaks or discoloration on roofing surfaces caused by algae growth, particularly Gloeocapsa magma. These stains are common in humid and rainy environments such as Vancouver. While primarily cosmetic, algae can retain moisture and contribute to long-term roof wear. Algae-resistant shingles and regular cleaning help prevent staining. Professional roof cleaning improves appearance and maintains material performance over time.
