Ice Dam

An ice dam is a ridge of ice that forms along the edge of a roof, preventing melting snow from draining properly. This trapped water can back up under shingles and cause leaks inside the building. Ice dams are typically caused by poor attic insulation and inadequate roof ventilation. While less frequent in Vancouver compared to colder regions, they can still occur during winter cold snaps. Proper insulation, ventilation, and roof design are essential to prevent ice dam formation and related water damage.
